Sleeps 4 - Ard na Mara (from the gaelic 'high above the sea') is a beautiful 1st floor apartment in the stunning East Neuk village of Pittenweem only 20 minutes from St Andrews. With stunning views of the Pittenweem harbour, this is a fabulous home for holidays. Ard na Mara has been refurbished to an extremely high standard and is a comfortable, well-appointed accommodation. Located in the heart of Pittenweem the galleries and cafes are on your doorstep. With WiFi and sea views this is a great place to relax after a day outside enjoying the superb East Neuk golf courses, walking the Coastal Path or playing on the beaches.

Tucked into a corner of the east coast of Scotland between St Andrews and Edinburgh, the East Neuk of Fife is one of Scotland's most beautiful regions. It has a character all its own, attracting artists by the thousands to its unique combination of history, sea, farmland and beaches, its picturesque fishing villages with their Dutch-style houses and its world famous golf courses. There is so much to do here for the whole family, from kayaking to horseriding, and yet there is great peace here too. In the summer, flowers line the hedgerows and the fields are rich with crops while fishing boats bob in the sea. It's a perfect place to relax, to eat well, and to recharge the batteries. Eight coastal villages comprise the East Neuk - each with its own special character.

Pittenweem - its name is Gaelic for 'place of the cave' - is a working fishing port, its busy harbour being the main landing point for the daily catch. It is a small village of some 1500 inhabitants, with a history not just of fishing and trading but of art too. In August over 100 artists exhibit at the annual Pittenweem Arts Festival and over 30 artists make their permanent home here. The village is blissfully situated, white houses with red pantiled roofs tumbling down to harbour and spreading up and beyond to the fields above. It is situated between Anstruther with its bustling harbour, the Fisheries Museum, supermarkets, various shops and renowned restaurants and the quieter village of St Monans, home to an excellent fish restaurant.

Pittenweem is a very well stocked village with a butchers, bakers, chemists, hairdresser, fish and chips shop (many think it's the best on the coast), a few pubs, the wonderful Cocoa Tree chocolate and teashop, the Heron bistro on the High Street, and the new Pittenweem Inn on the outskirts. This is a haven for art lovers, for foodies, and for those who simply want to enjoy the unique atmosphere of an historic village - you can still visit the cave that once housed a hermit and gave the village its name. This area is particularly attractive to golfers of course - there are some wonderful courses within half an hour: Anstruther (1 miles away, its club house provides an excellent lunch), Balcomie Links at Crail, Elie, Balbirnie Park, Kingsbarns, Scotscraig, Charleton, Lundin Links, Carnoustie where the 2007 Open took place and of course there is St Andrews, just 15 minutes away and its historic courses.

Ard na Mara is a lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom first floor apartment all on one floor with stunning harbour views. The property has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom and a family bathroom. There is gas central heating and wood effect flooring throughout with rugs.
Parking: Parking is at the side of the apartment building and is shared with the downstairs flat. It is available on a ‘first come first served’ basis, with the space behind used for loading-unloading only. On street parking is then available on the High Street.
The vestibule has ample storage for walking boots, golf clubs , cases etc. There is space for a bicycle or a buggy.
The stairs access the first floor and if you are travelling with small children a stairgate can be provided, please can you advise if required. The hall has a lovely glass brick wall feature and the walls are adorned with the owner Lys Stevens paintings (www.lysstevens.co.uk)
Sitting Room: The sitting room is furnished to a high standard with comfortable sofas, Freeview TV, DVD and iPod docking station. There is the most stunning view of Pittenweem harbour and the ever-changing seascape. A perfect place for enjoying a leisurely morning coffee or evening aperitif and watching the seafaring world go by. There is a Dimplex log effect fire for cosy evenings in.
Kitchen: This spacious kitchen diner will seat 4 comfortably. This newly fitted kitchen has all modern appliances including fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker and has cutlery for up to 8 people. With a large window this lovely light room is a great place for entertaining, cooking and dining.
Bathroom: Elegant family bathroom with bath, shower over and WC. There is a separate shower cubicle and heated towel rail.
Bedroom 1: Located on this floor is a lovely double bedroom with a window view to the street below. It is furnished with a double bed, 2 bedside cabinets and double wardrobe and is fully carpeted.
Bedroom 2: This is a twin bedroom furnished with adult size twin beds and bedside cabinet and wardrobe.

Please be aware that the annual Pittenweem Arts Festival will be on during the first week in August each year which will affect parking. It operates in the whole of Pittenweem and the streets will be very busy. A parking permit will be issued but you may have to park on the High Street.
