Tucked into a corner of the east coast of Scotland between St Andrews and Edinburgh, the East Neuk of Fife is one of Scotland's most beautiful regions. It has a character all its own, attracting artists by the thousands to its unique combination of history, sea, farmland and beaches, its picturesque fishing villages with their Dutch-style houses and its world famous golf courses. There is so much to do here for the whole family, from kayaking to horse riding, and yet there is great peace here too. In the summer, flowers line the hedgerows and the fields are rich with crops while fishing boats bob in the sea. It's a perfect place to relax, to eat well, and to recharge the batteries. Eight coastal villages comprise the East Neuk - each with its own special character.
- The area is famous for its lush golf courses, with a wide choice in the immediate locality and within 30 minutes' drive.
- Head to St Andrews, home of Scotland's oldest university, and stroll along the two-mile stretch of pristine beach, West Sands, where Chariots of Fire was filmed.
- Several attractive country and coastal walks can be accessed directly from the house.
- For water-sports enthusiasts or anyone who wants to try something new, there is a choice of water sports in the nearby town of Elie, which also has a beautiful harbour and beach.
- Tentsmuir Forest and beach on the outskirts of St Andrews (within a half hour drive) is great for exploring; if you want to venture further afield, the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park offers some lovely opportunities for longer walks in the Scottish hills.
