Focus on Elie

 

 

Elie occupies the eastern half of a mile long south-facing sandy bay framed at either end by rocky points. Since 1929 it has been formally joined with Earlsferry, which runs along the western half of the same bay.  With lots to keep the family busy its no wonder that Elie has been a popular holiday destination for many years.  The picturesque village has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, take time to meander through the village and visit some of the shops and then relax in one of the coffee shops or bars.

The village boasts 4 glorious sandy beaches and also an intriguing volcanic beach where families can be seen sifting the sand in the hunt for the famous Elie Rubies.  The harbour beach is the busiest area, where you can enjoy canoeing, sailing, pedaloes and inflatable water rides at the watersports centre that nestles in the dunes.

For the energetic visitor, Elie Sports Club offers a number of activities including tennis, putting, bowls, a driving range and a nine hole golf course.  There is also an ancient links golf course, designed by James Braid, which stretches over 6273 yards and dates back to the 16th century.

A short walk to the west end of the bay, on the shores of the golf course, you will find the chain walk, a series of chains that are secured to the cliffs allowing adventurous walkers to discover remote caves and rock pools.
